Sofia & Bulgaria insights

I've just checked in for our flight tomorrow morning. We're going home after a week spending our time in Bulgaria, and every trip feels excited, but also ends so damn fast. I really enjoyed our stay in the different places, but the highlight (of course) was the wedding of my cousin.

Today we spend our day in Sofia, the capital city, but I was a little dissappointed. I imagined it should look a bit the same as Plovdiv, but this city is truly what you think of as a capital city: more industrial and less mixed with the authentic culture of Bulgaria. The colours of the houses were not that smoothly painted, the people were not as kind as in the middle of the country, and the surroundings were not as clean as in Plovdiv.

Maybe it was because Plovdiv was 2019's cultural city of Europe, but I hoped Sofia to look a bit the same.

However, me and my dad had a long walk through the city, and the huge buildings and capital sites look stunning. The big, golden, cathedral is amazing to view from a little distance and we sat in front of the church, while we had something to drink. After seeing all the statues and buildings, we strolled along the boulevard down the road, through a couple of parks, and back to our appartment. It was hot today, but not very humid, and even when the city isn't close to the see, the wind blew hard and it almost looked like we were close to the shores.

We refreshed ourselves and got out for our last dinner on the top floor of a mall in a nice, retro restaurant.

I truly believe that Bulgaria is a nice country to visit, especially the main land and the medieval part of the old cities. The nature is amazing, calm, rich of plants, flowers, birds and other animals, and I think it's truly worth visiting again.

The only place we wanted to go, but didn't have time for, were the Rila lakes. That's because a trip around the lakes takes more than two of hours, and to fully see the most beautiful parts of the national park, you need at least a full day till a week to explore.

Overall, what I experienced this trip was really worth it and I couldn't be more grateful to have those memories with my dad.

Next to that, I took my online business with me for the first time, and after this trip I learned a couple of things:

  • What I really missed in the first place, was my Anespa. This is my Spa shower that I have at home, that seperates the chlorines and hard water from the beneficial and nutricious molecules of the water. So, it's better for your skin hydration and especially your hair will be stronger. The first two days, I didn't really notice some changes. But the longer I was from home, the more often I took a shower under a 'normal' shower, the drier and more fragile my skin got, and my hair broke. I didn't feel good in my body and I tried to take care of it, but the warmth and the bad quality of the water ruined my skin. The first evening when I returned at home and stood under my shower was a huge relief. I felt hydrated, and more energised. Some people will look pretty weird and say things like: "You're making the issue bigger than it is, and it's something you only deal with". Okay, I'm not an intellect, and I can only share my experience. But after changing my water, this really improved my health and escpecially my hair, skin and body functions.

  • I proved myself that I can travel while working on my business. In short, I was a digital nomad. How awesome is that! It was a challenge on the forehand because it was the first time since I started this business that I was going on a trip. I had to take action and really show myself  that I could keep disciplined to really work on my business. And I did!
  • My life perspective has changed a bit. In the first place my vision was to travel around the world while working remotely, but when I got to explore throughout the day while having time spans to work on my business tasks, I also mentioned how pleasant it is to have a stable base, a home where you can always come back to. I think it's good to have a place where you can get rid of what you want to achieve, yourself, and your connections so you can go on another trip. If you're constantly wandering and exploring around the world, it's an eye-opener for your abilities, but for your prospects it always feels like your everywhere and nowhere at the same time. To really connect and have full attention for one another, seems to be more difficult.

I learned all those things in just one week. How stepping out of my comfort zone, and going on a trip with my business could give me massive insights and great memories to build upon for the next time.

The most banal insights are often the most important. Like the realisation that we have one life, only one, and that we have to take care of it.
